GENERAL INFORMATIONn:
The Kinder goat breed yields a high amount of milk for its breed size. Its milk is also sweeter and higher in butterfat content than most other breeds. This makes its milk perfect for the making of cheese, soap and for drinking.
They will usually reach 70% of their body weight before they are a year old with a dressing percentage of around 60%.
Their good milk and meat production qualities mixed with their size and temperament make them excellent for those wanting a sustainable homestead. Or interested in breeding goats for milk and meat. Or for pets as they have a very efficient feed conversion rate too.
This is the perfect breed as they are dual-purpose hardy, their milk has been rated as some of the sweetest tasting goats’ milk and their meat has won awards in meat tasting contests.
They also make wonderful family pets, are easy to handle for the loan herder.
They are also the perfect starter goat for first-time goat owners.
They are not known for their fiber production but most goats that have even a medium length coat can usually produce a bit of fiber.
Most meat goats have their skins used for some form of leather production or other.
HISTORY
In 1986 the first three Kinder does were born in Washington.
This came about then the Zederkamm farms Nubian buck died and they bred Nubian does with their Pygmy buck. They bred the does as the wanted them to get back into milking and so the Kinder goat breed was born.
Zederkamm farms were pleasantly surprised at the growth rate of the new breed of buck they had created. Plus, the kids had a great temperament and were really cute little things. As the breed grew and the does kidded, they were once again pleased by their high milking rate, how easily the kidding was, and the number of kids produced with each litter. The final stage was finding out the dressing percentage of the goats as a meat goat and how delectable the meat was.
