Hi
My name is Kim and I live in one of the most incredible places on earth. A land that is breathtakingly beautiful but is also filled with the most amazing creatures. I have been fascinated with creatures big and small from a little girl. And where I live you are introduced to the wildlife from very young because even in some of the most built-up suburbs you never know if a Legavaan (Rock Monitor) or a monkey, to name but a few, are going to pop in for a visit. We also have an abundance of game farms, wildlife preserves and sanctuaries so our school trips were filled with days out on a safari, having close up experiences with elephants, looking into a crocodiles mouth to see how many teeth he has and we even got to stand on an ostrich egg (don’t worry they are really tough) or ride an ostrich if we were brave enough. As you may have guessed by now I live in South Africa. I grew up surrounded by wildlife, riding horses bareback through the bushveld, spent hot summer days at beautiful beaches usually teeming with birds and cannot remember a time when my house was not filled with pets.
Now as a mother to a ten-year-old boy I get to experience the wonder of nature all over again through his eyes.
As I get to do it all over again I thought I would share our many animal projects with the world. The joy of owning pets, farm animals, wild animals, birds, creepy crawlies, creatures of the deep to those teeny little ones you can find in a shallow rock pool and everything in between. Our adventures will span the globe as we look at the many creatures that live in the most amazing places.
As we have just done a project on dinosaurs we may even look at some of the modern creatures’ ancestors. The more we understand the past the better we can prepare for the future! Understanding nature and the special part each creature great or small plays in our ecology goes a long way to helping save the planet.
We may not be national Geographic or Animal Planet, but we are an enthusiastic family of animal lovers that hope our passion will rub off on you. So, come have some fun, thrills, chills, heartfelt and educational maybe even enlightening adventures with us as we learn about our amazing world together.
